Reinventing a piece of Fostoria History
One of downtown Fostoria’s most important historic commercial blocks.
Located in the heart of downtown Fostoria, 204 S Main Street dates back to around 1882, when the city was experiencing rapid growth fueled by the natural gas and glass industry boom. The building is part of a historic commercial block commonly known as the Foster Building, which played a key role in shaping Fostoria’s early business district. Originally home to Noah’s Ark General Store, the storefront was one of several connected retail spaces that lined Main Street, contributing to a vibrant and bustling downtown.
Beyond its retail roots, the building also served as a hub for professional, educational, and community activity. Its upper floors once housed offices for doctors and attorneys, as well as space for the North American Normal University and meetings for organizations like the Independent Order of Odd Fellows. Over the years, the building has adapted alongside the city’s changing economy, but it has remained a lasting symbol of Fostoria’s rich history and continued vitality as a commercial center.
